Bienvenidos staff took part in the annual All Staff Meeting last Friday, August 15th at The California Endowment in Downtown Los Angeles. Activities included a health fair, visioning exercise, guest speaker Monica Garcia, LAUSD School Board President, and an awards ceremony. Staff were recognized for the commitment to Bienvenidos with the receipt of the “Heart of Bienvenidos” awards, commemorating five, ten, fifteen, and twenty year anniversaries with the agency. Additionally, each division selected one individual who went above and beyond their job to receive a “Shining Star” award. Check out the photos below.

Bienvenidos participated at a back to school event at one of LA County’s housing communities last week. The Los Angeles County Housing Authority strives daily to assist families in need, with their ultimate goal being to build better lives and better neighborhoods. Along with several other agencies, Bienvenidos joined the effort to inform the 300 residents about community programs and other options that would enhance their lives and ensure a healthier future. In addition, over 300 backpacks were given away, residents received free hair cuts, participated in a raffle and received a free hot dog lunch.
To our surprise and delight, the event was honored by an appearance by California Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard. The Back to School Jam was a definite success and all of the children who participated are prepared to take on the new school year.Story Credit: Rosalba Torres
Behind the Scenes: a new RFP for Family Preservation, Partnerships for Families
While DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services) has no shortage of news coverage, the media hasn’t covered the latest victory in ensuring quality services to prevent child abuse and neglect. Last week, DCFS announced they will issue a new Request for Proposals for two of the most successful prevention programs: Family Preservation and Partnerships for Families. Bienvenidos has offered Family Preservation services for almost 15 years, and Partnerships for Families (as Project Corazón) since the program started in 2006. We look forward to the opportunity to preserve these critical programs that keep children safe at home, with their families. The process of re-procuring these programs started in mid-2012, but has been fraught with difficulty due to uncertain Federal funding, challenges implementing the new Core Practice Model and Protective Factors Framework, and attempts to see these programs properly integrated into the service milieu. Congratulations to DCFS on this momentous decision!
