Giving Tuesday is a Day to Make a Difference

Together, we can make a difference in women’s health!

Bienvenidos Community Health Center sees approximately 350 women each month, primarily low-income Latinas who haven’t had good access to health care before coming to our clinic. In California, Latinas are the least likely to access recommended cancer screening (Pap test). Ten percent have never had the test in their lives. Cervical cancer is the second-most common form of cancer among women worldwide. Bienvenidos’ goal is to raise $9,000 by #GivingTuesday on December 2nd for a colposcope.

Colposcopy is a procedure where the doctor, using a special instrument called a colposcope, can diagnose abnormal Pap tests and get women the treatment they need for cancer and other health issues. Bienvenidos Community Health Center currently borrows a machine on an as-needed basis. A new machine costs $8,716.96. This machine will increase early detection of these diseases, and help save the lives of our patients.

Be a part of women’s health and make a donation to purchase a colposcope!

Spooktacular Halloween

Bienvenidos’ Community Services programs – Project Corazón, Family Preservation, Domestic Violence, Cal WORKs, and the HSA Collaborative – hosted a fun for all Halloween party at our East Los Angeles location on Thursday, October 30th, 2014. Activities included decorating trick-or-treat bags, a coloring contest, face painting, and a costume contest. Halloween themed refreshments were available for all – ginger ale and ice cream punch, candy, as well as healthy snacks. Four pumpkins were raffled off to the families. The event concluded with a trip through the “haunted house” for the children and a presentation for parents on how to stay safe while enjoying trick-or-treating.

Check out some of the great costumes below!
