Hillsides Opens New East Los Angeles Office

LOS ANGELES, August 30, 2018 -- Hillsides, a Southern California foster care and mental health charity, has opened a new office in East Los Angeles. The Bienvenidos Family Resource Centers, East Los Angeles will offer mental health, family preservation, wraparound, and youth prevention services.  The location replaces two smaller sites in East Los Angeles and Montebello.

The new office spans almost 16,000 square feet with 10 treatment rooms, a huge training/community room, and dozens of staff offices. The building will accommodate 45 employees who serve some 640 clients each year.

The site also offers an innovative Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program that helps parents manage their children’s behavioral challenges.  PCIT works with parents to promote positive parent-child relationship and interactions by coaching parents from the other side of a two-way mirror through a headset and earpiece that the parent uses.

“The building has more than double the space of our previous locations, and with this extra room, we can offer our clients enhanced services,” said Brooke Nisen, the director of the Family Resource Center, East Los Angeles.  “The office is also beautiful, and is filled with modern, streamlined furniture and natural light coming in through the many windows.  Both our staff and clients are very happy to be there.”

Bienvenidos, which became an affiliate of Hillsides in 2016, has maintained offices in the East Los Angeles area for more than 20 years.  “With this new location, we are able to expand our presence in what has traditionally been an underserved community,” said Hillsides president and chief executive officer Joseph M. Costa.

Mental health services offered at the site include individual, family, and group therapy; problem-solving treatment focused on home or school issues; crisis intervention; and school-based services. The Family Preservation program includes in-home outreach counseling, and parent training.  Wraparound services implement an individualized plan of care to address children’s mental health needs. The site also houses Project Safe–LA, an HIV, HEP C, and substance abuse prevention program for youth ages 13 – 24 who reside in East Los Angeles.

The Bienvenidos Family Resource Centers, East Los Angeles is located at 5400 East Olympic Blvd., first floor, Los Angeles, CA 90022.
